If you read the most recent High Five for Friday post, then you know that I very recently broke up with  Birchbox.  While I loved the service, I was just ready for something new, and didn’t want to pay for 2 subscription services.  With Birchbox, I felt like I was getting a lot of hair products and facial stuff, but not a lot of makeup.  Makeup is probably my favorite category of the 3, so I wanted something that would give my more makeup samples from brands I wanted to try.  Enter Ipsy.

Ipsy is very similar to Birchbox–same price point, overall same concept, but instead of getting a box, you get an actual bag that you can use!  I kept seeing Ipsy Glam Bag’s showing up on various blogs and in my Instagram feed, and finally I had to take the plunge and try it.
My first Glam Bag came in the mail this weekend.  I was very excited to get it, because Ipsy’s website allows you to preview what’s going to be in your bag.  I saw that I would be receiving Urban Decay’s new Perversion mascara.  Urban Decay is a brand that has really caught my eye lately, and I was excited to see this new product in my bag!
In my August Glam Bag, I received:
Dr. Brandy Pores No More Pore Refiner
Urban Decay Perversion Mascara
J. Cat Beauty Flying Solo Eye Shadow
Jesey Shore Sun Monhongo Lip Conditioner
Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk

Overall, I really enjoyed the items in my bag.  Four of the 5 products were makeup related, which is exactly what I was looking for!
If you’re interested in trying Ipsy, you can sign up through my referral link here.  Ipsy is $10/month. What you receive depends on your answers to their beauty quiz.  You will receive a Glam Bag with deluxe and/or full size (like my eyeshadow this month!) samples.  You can also earn ipsyPoints through various activities and referrals, which can be then be redeemed for bonus items in your bag!
What do you think?  Do you prefer Birchbox or Ipsy?  Was I crazy for dumping Birchbox?  Was I crazy for not getting Ipsy sooner? Let me know in the comments below–I’d love to hear what your experience has been with a monthly subscription service!

All these subscription services are so tempting! I will say that getting cute little bags along with the Ipsy items is a huge draw. Love little bags like that.

Katie, I have always loved little bags. I can always find a use for them, especially when they're this cute! I too think that subscription services are temping, but they quickly add, which is why I said goodbye to Birchbox. It was hard, though.

I switched from Birchbox to Ipsy a few months ago and like Ipsy much better. My glam bag was a little different but I also got the mascara and pore refiner. Love both of those products!

I did BirchBox for a while then quit too. Maybe I will check out Ipsy!

I LOVE ipsy so much more than I did Birchbox. I'm really happy I made the switch.

  7. 8.21.14

I was really excited for the products! I love new makeup finds!

I loved those products too! Although, in all honesty, I'm just as happy with my drugstore mascara from L'Oreal as with this one. I'm already loving Ipsy better, but I will miss the way the Birchbox points worked–I just got $78 worth of products for $14.40 shipped!

You should! It's definitely worth a shot!

Me too! Now, ask me in a couple of months just to make sure, but I'm really enjoying the switch-up. I think I was just burnt out on Birchbox:(

I have so many good things about that Dr. Brant no more pores. I have actually been thinking about getting Ipsy or even the Allure box- I'm not sure if I'm digging Birchbox anymore (i think the points are the only things that keep me around).

The points were what made it hard for me to leave! So I accumulated $40 worth and cashed out.

I feel like I would use the makeup more than I would the hair products, mostly just because my hair is really finicky about what works and with my limited time as a mama I don't want to have to redo my hair. Easier to wash your face! haha

Isn't that the truth?!lol I only wash my hair every 3-4 days, and I hate when I try a product that makes my hair need washing on Day 2:(

Just subscribed! 🙂 I have never used a subscription service before, but I'm excited to try new stuff. I have a bad habit of wasting full-size products that I end up not liking, so $10 to try smaller versions sounds like a great idea to me.

Claire, that was my thought process as well! I really, really like Ipsy and I think you will too! Be sure to let me know what you think!!!!
