While the prior houses have been destroyed, the current house was built in the 1930s. The steps are to the sides of the portico. Interestingly, while it looks like steps are missing at the front of the portico, that’s actually where the carriages would drop the ladies off at when they came to visit the home.
If the house looks familiar, it’s because the exterior was used as Allie’s parents’ summer house in The Notebook. It also appeared in North and South and Alex Haley’s Queen.
Upon leaving the plantation, we headed to downtown Charleston for a night out. We explored some while waiting on our table at Poogan’s Porch. Not only was Poogan’s yummy, but we were able to experience sitting on the second-story porch–perfect night with great friends!
I love this post. So glad you had a wonderful time. It makes me want to go there and visit. It's so beautiful Della@delladevoted.blogspot.com
Looks like you had a great weekend! That's so neat that the plantation you visited was actually used for a few movies. I love history, too, and we've always talked about going down and touring some of the southern plantations. Hopefully when Juliet gets a little older, it's a bit of a drive from Ohio 🙂
What a fun getaway! Happy Monday!
Looks like a fun weekend! Loved seeing your photos!

It was great:) You should totally go to Charleston sometime! I can't remember which part of OH you live in, but it was a little over 8 hrs from Lex–not too bad.

Thanks, Jill–it was! I have more coming when I can work them in-between other posts!
We didn't hit up either of them earlier this summer, even though they were on my list. So glad I got a chance to visit both this time!
Thanks, Maria! It was gorgeous down there. If you end up going sometime, I have 2 other reviews of Charleston and Folly Beach that you should check out for some ideas of what to do and where to stay.
