Today I’m linking up with my blogging buddies for this month’s installment of our “How I Style It” link-up! This is a new monthly linkup where we all get together to show you how we style our favorite fashion trends, and invite you to join us in showing off your passion for fashion as well!
School is in session this month as we discuss pattern mixing! Mix it up, then grab the button and use the hashtag #patternmixingschool to join in on the fun:)
I used to shy away from pattern mixing, but not anymore! I believe fashion should be fun, and what’s more fun than NOT being matchy-matchy? (Let’s be honest, though. . .I love a good matchy-matchy outfit too!) That said, some pattern mixing strategies work better than others. For some quick tips on pattern mixing to get us started, you can click here for a simple pattern mixing “class” and click here for a more advanced “class.”
Today, I opted for full-on pattern mixing, putting both patterns right up against each other. Flamingos are everywhere right now, including on my shirt. Why does this busyness work instead of qualifying as a hot mess? Because of color blocking. My shirt is lighter in color, while the black on my pants and the black on my necklace really anchor the outfit and pull it altogether. Now, in the spirit of this blog, I have to mention that I got incredible deals on both the shirt (less than $7) and pants (less than $14)!
This pics were shot on a rare date night in downtown Lexington, Kentucky. We were at Triangle Park, and then headed over to Pies & Pints for a bite to eat afterwards:)
Caution: as you scroll through these pics, take it slow. . .then scroll back and forth really fast. These pants look wild when you do that.
