Hello readers of Bright on a Budget! My name is Rachel and I am the fashion and lifestyle blogger behind Garay Treasures.  I am happy to be guest posting for Tiffany today to show you how I have styled polka-dotted shorts and let you get a glimpse of my overall personal fashion sense which is classy, pretty and casual most of the time. If you like what you have read, please take some time and check out the links I have included in this post to get full outfit details and more “How to Style…” posts. Last summer was my first summer welcoming shorts back into my life after 12 years (I am not kidding as I felt they looked awful on my body shape), but that changed when I found these polka dotted shorts at Target on clearance for $6.  At the time, they were all the rave in the fashion world and I didn’t have but $6 of birthday money left, so these went into my shopping basket.  It was love at first sight, but once I got them they stayed in my drawers for weeks until I came up with a few ways I wanted to style them.

Today, I am sharing with you some ways I turned my “What goes with these polka-dotted shorts?” to “How to Style Polka-Dot Shorts.” So many things go with these such as a lace top, leather jacket, graphic tee, other patterns and more. Below is 5 ways I have styled them and I provide back links to past posts of me wearing the outfits you see below.

Style Option 1: Add some heels and a black button down pleated tee

Enough said! This look adds a happy hour or go out and about town vibe while remaining both casual and sexy. I choose to keep the jewelry minimal and the black in the outfit makes the polka-dots burst even more (see outfit details and post here).

Style Option 2: Add some texture into the outfit (such as lace, crochet or eyelet).

Adding texture to the polka dots can create some elegance and leave the outfit looking more put together and polished. The blouse you see above has some crochet and lace details and this allows the eyes to not just focus on polka-dots but to be more set on the whole outfit (see this outfit post here).

Style Option #3: Add an accessory (hat, colorful bag) to compliment the colors of the shorts.

I think adding similar colors as the shorts is always a safe bet. Just add a fedora, hat, or other accessory, even a colorful accessory, and you have yourself more than just a plain look (see the full post here).

Style Option #4: Add Chambray or denim.

Chambray is my go to for every outfit just about and is such a useful wardrobe staple for all seasons (see my “How to Style and Wear Chambray for Spring & Summer” post). Chambray or denim is just an extra fun layering piece or even top to wear with polka-dot shorts (See this outfit and details here).

Style Option #5: Or just go with a white tee.

If you can’t tell by now I love to style these polka-dotted shorts with white or black tops as I haven’t yet deviated from the neutral colors, but I am happy to try neon tops or colors, and other patterns with the shorts (see the outfit details here).

Tell me how have you styled your polka-dot bottoms/shorts in the comments below!
