Tides Folly Beach (Charleston, SC) Review 2015

Folly Beach is hands-down one of my favorite places on earth. It’s a laid-back beach community close to Charleston, SC, but still quite removed from the hustle of downtown.  We spent our days in Folly and some evenings in Charleston, since it’s only a short drive. Some days, it felt as if time was passing a little slower when listening to the waves or walking down the street.  This location is versatile, as it’s family friendly but also nice for couples or a girls trip too!

Chauncey and I headed down to the low country for a couples getaway mid-August.  It was our second time staying at Folly Beach together, and my third time there (all in the last year!).  Nothing makes me as excited as heading down Center Street.  Center Street is the road into town and dead ends at the hotel, Tides Folly Beach. I love how quaint everything is.   Oh, and let’s not forget that you can walk around in your swimsuit and cover up!!!  Major plus in my book, especially when heading to lunch from the beach.

Of course we stayed at the Tides Folly Beach again.  The Tides is the only hotel on the beach, and every room is oceanfront!!! How awesome is that?! I love it because you don’t have to pay extra for a room with a view, since every room has the same view:)  The hotel is very reasonably priced and very clean (a major requirement for me).  While they offer a AAA discount, the best rate is if you do the 14-Day Advanced Booking, but it doesn’t allow for any cancellations (AAA allows for a cancellation up to 3 days before your stay).  The rooms are clean and cute.  I like to get the room with two queen beds because (1) it’s cheaper and (2) I can lay my clothes and accessories out on the second bed.
The staff is awesome!  I had some issues when booking this year due to availability.  If you run into similar issues, I suggest asking to speak to a manager or someone at the front desk.  They were so nice to me, and immediately resolved said issue so that I didn’t have to change my vacation!!! Additionally, the staff members were very friendly and informative when we had questions while we were there.
For more pics of the hotel, check out my initial review from last year.

This is a view of the hotel from the Folly Beach Fishing Pier.  The beach was crowded that day because there was a surf competition.  The competition was fun to watch and listen to.  Most days, the beach is not that crowded at all.

One night a week, the hotel has movie night on the beach!  Last year I watch Armageddon while I was there.  This year the movie was Dirty Dancing.  You’ve not watched a movie until you’ve had the beach movie experience.  Chauncey, though, had the gall to ask if we could leave early, right before the big finale dance. . .um, no, honey!

Most of my mornings started with a walk on the beach.  I enjoy the serenity of early morning, when it feels like it’s just you, the ocean, and the birds.  Seashell hunting is also at the top of my list, and I find that morning is the best time to find shells.

During the day, Chauncey and I would rent two beach chairs and an umbrella right by the hotel.  We liked to have them placed right near the water.  Chauncey would play games on his iPad and sometimes read while I would dive into whatever trashy romance novel I had handy.  It was the perfect vacation.  It soothed away most, if not all, of my stress.  Also, I find it imperative to have some parent-only vacations to reconnect with your spouse.
I was sooo sad to see vacation come to an end, but more than happy to get home to Kane.  Folly Beach and the Tides are just as picture-perfect as they look in these pictures.  If you haven’t been, you should really schedule some time to go!

Nice to meet you!
