How I Style It : Falling Leaves Fashion

Today I’m linking up with my blogging buddies for this month’s installment of our “How I Style It” link-up!  This is a monthly linkup where we all get together to show you how we style our favorite fashion trends, and invite you to join us in showing off your passion for fashion as well! You can meet the hosts down below:)
Today is all about fall colors.  Dress up and roll in the leaves, then grab the button and use the hashtag #fallingleavesfashion to join in on the fun!
My top three colors for fall are (1) burgundy, (2) dried herb/olive, and (3) navy, along with variations of these colors.  I love all three of these colors and they provide a great color palette for fall, whether worn solo or worn together.  My shirt has more of the burgundy and navy colors, along with a little green, but it’s hard to see due to the plaid pattern.
To complement these rich colors, I like to pair them with textures.  Flannel and suede are two of my favorite cold weather fabrics.  These textures add more depth to your look and help to define your layers.  The skirt I’m wearing is flannel, but it’s my all-time favorite cut of skirt (I have 3 city mini skirts).  I especially love the ruffle at the waist, which lessens the cut-in of the line where the elastic sits on your waist. . . I find that to be especially forgiving if you have bigger hips like I do. And my boots have a suede texture to them that really pops against tights or leggings.
Also, if you’re in the market for affordable boots for fall, then you’ve got to check out the ones I’m wearing. They come in quite a few different colors and are only $49.99!!!

Braids are also everywhere this season, so I popped a loose dutch braid in one side of my hair.  And there’s evidently a tiny stick decorating the braid because that’s what happens when you play outside with your little boy:)  If you have fine/thin hair and want to fatten up your braids like I did here, be sure to check out this tutorial from Kate at the Small Things Blog!!!

And I’m wearing another piece of my Lucky Peanut Jewelry collection.  If you’re from Kentucky or live here, then you have to check out Katie’s shop! Katie is a local Kentucky artisan.  She has the cutest Kentucky items, including this wire-wrapped bangle I’m wearing.  I’m so pleased with all three of my items from her shop.  The items would all be great to give as gifts this Christmas too!
