Ipsy Glam Bag Review–September 2015

It’s been a while since I’ve reviewed one of my Ipsy Glam Bags, but September’s was definitely review-worthy.  The bag was adorable and the products were ones I looked forward to trying!!!

1. NYC COSMETICS Ipsy Eye Shadow Trio
I love this eye shadow palette!  The shades are perfect for fall.  I was slightly apprehensive of the middle bronze-y shade, but it looks beautiful on!  This shadow has good pigmentation and goes on smoothly.  I do recommend that you blend, blend, blend though if you use the darkest shade.

2. GLAMGLOW Flashmud Brightening Treatment
I’m not much of one for face masks, but this one was ok.  Nothing was profound about it, but my face felt nice once I’d finished.  While it’s fun to try, a full-size costs $69(!), so I’d never buy this in real life.

3. TRE’STIQUE Mini Matte Lip Crayon
Shade: Nantucket Nude
At first, I thought this was another eye shadow crayon (I enjoyed the one I previously received).  I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this was a lip crayon.  If you go darker with your eye shadow, like using the darkest shade in the palette above, then this color is the perfect nude to pair with you bold eye.  I do recommend using this over some lip balm, though, as I found the product to be slightly drying.

4. FORMULA X Nail Color
Shade: Ignite
This shade is not only pretty, but it’s really on trend for nail color this fall. Even though the formula was a little more jelly-like than what I usually pick out, it went on/covered nicely with 2 coats.  I don’t think it wore very well, though.  This brand just doesn’t tend to last on my nails. I hate that because this is a great color!

5. GARNIER FRUCTIS Brazilian Smooth Flatiron Express
It’s a rare occasion when I straighten my hair anymore, but this product inspired me to do just that.  I think that it did a decent job, especially for the price.  I like that it’s a cream, so that it’s more smoothing.  I also liked that it didn’t wear down my hair.  Definitely try it if you’re looking for something new in this category.  And this week, you get a $5 giftcard when you spend $15 on personal care items at Target!

Reflection on my Birchbox break-up (Birchbox vs. Ipsy)
I’ve now been received Ipsy for over a year.  I broke up with Birchbox to make the switch and I haven’t looked back.  I was getting a lot of duplicates from past months with Birchbox and had just grown tired with what they were offering in their boxes.  Plus, I’d learned that I liked the makeup products the best.  With Birchbox, it was more of a mix of products.  I was getting a lot of hair and face products.  With Ipsy, I get mainly makeup products that I find fun to try.  There have been a few months when I was a little disappointed with my Ipsy glam bag, but I’ve overall been very satisfied. I’ve definitely been more satisfied with the glam bag than with my Birchbox.
