First, before we get into the best shorts for summer, did you notice that Bright on a Budget got a MAKEOVER?! New logo, new site design, and I FINALLY made the switch from Blogger to WordPress!!! If you’d like a post with my thoughts on the switch, let me know in the comments below! I have to give a shoutout to Chauncey–not only is he the perfect Instagram husband (you know he takes all my pics, right?) but he also did the Blogger to WordPress migration for me!  Thank you, Chauncey, for everything you do! Bright on a Budget is a team effort.

Now, onto this outfit.lol  Becky from byBMG and I have teamed up to show you two ways to style our favorite shorts for summer!

TOP: J. Crew Factory at The Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass // Shorts: J. Crew Factory c/o the Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass (solid colors here ) // Bow flats: Target ($25) // Earrings: Sugarfix via Target // Purse: Rebecca Minkoff via Ebay (also here) Necklaces: Baublebar, Kate Spade, J. Crew Factory

I first discovered these shorts last summer.  They have a 3″ hem, which I have found to be the perfect length. The waistband is stretchy, so they’re super comfortable shorts, but the cut makes the shorts appear to still be dressy.  While they come in both patterns and solids, Becky and I both grabbed this green floral pattern because it’s so eye-catching. This style truly is the best shorts for summer, and at the price, you can’t beat it!

I had my eyes on these shorts for a while, and I knew that I wanted to pair them with this striped ruffle sleeve tee.  The J. Crew Factory store at the Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass was actually sold out of this tee when Nicole and I went shopping, but the manager is so nice–it came in a few days later and she automatically held it for me! Now that’s some customer service:)  Be sure to size up one size in this top. Stripes and florals always work well for pattern mixing, and this pair was no exception.

Since my top had a lot of black in it, I wanted to go with black sandals to tie everything together. My Target was sold out of these bow flats, so I had to wait for them to be shipped. These flats are amazing. They’re actually a dupe for this much more expensive pair of Sam Edelman Henna Slide Sandals, and you can’t beat the price.

Finally, I kept my jewelry simple and added this bag, which matches the floral pattern on my shorts. The color is called Purple Rain, and it’s sold out online, but I’ve linked a slightly darker purple option for you that’s on sale. This bag has a story behind it.  Both Nicole and I had our eye on this bag for months, but we were waiting for the price to drop.  Well, when we went shopping at the Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass, Nicole found this bag in Saks Off Fifth, but they only had one of the bag:( We agreed to split custody of the bag (haha), but luckily I found this one for a steal on Ebay last week!!! And Nicole gave me the inspiration to pair this print with the purse.

Be sure to stop by Becky’s blog and checkout how she styled the best shorts for summer! And while you’re at it, grab a pair, and they’ll become your favorite shorts for summer too!
