How to Hide a Baby Bump through the First Trimester

While we were very excited to share the news that Baby Fannin #2 was on the way, we wanted to wait until we were out of the first trimester to share. It’s true what they say, however, about baby bumps showing a lot more quickly with subsequent pregnancies. Trying to keep my pregnancy a secret until we were ready to share was a bit more challenging this time around.  So I’m sharing my tips for how to hide a baby bump through the first trimester.

#1 WAY TO HIDE A BABY BUMP: OVERSIZED TOPS + DRESSES

I was 10 weeks along when these pictures were taken, but definitely already had a bump.  It’s so true what they say about showing quicker with subsequent pregnancies. Luckily, oversized tops and dresses are all the rage right now.  I sized up at least one size in everything I bought.

#2 WAY TO HIDE A BABY BUMP: PEPLUM

Peplum is a great way to not only cover-up a baby bump, but to distract from it as well.  With peplum, you’re drawing attention to the exact area you’re trying to hide, but it works because people don’t expect you to draw attention to the bump area. I was 13 weeks pregnant here (this skirt barely zipped!haha).

#3 WAY TO HIDE A BABY BUMP: LEGGINGS THAT SUCK YOU IN

For the first trimester, it’s easy to suck your baby bump in with either leggings or high-waisted pants. Pick a pair of thicker leggings that are spandex-y.  Cotton isn’t going to do the trick.  I was 12 weeks pregnant here.

#4 WAY TO HIDE A BABY BUMP: TUNIC TOP

A longer tunic top is an easy way to hide a baby bump. Make sure the tunic top is just a little loose so it doesn’t cling to anything. You’ll also want to make sure that your bottoms don’t cut into your sides, giving you a muffin top effect. I’m 11 weeks pregnant here.

#5 WAY TO HIDE A BABY BUMP: LAYERS

Layers are the easiest way to hide a baby bump!  Throw on a utility jacket or loose cardigan and it won’t show that your belly is pooching out. Here, I’m 11 weeks pregnant.

HOW TO HIDE A BABY BUMP

I honestly had a bump when I shot this blog post in a bikini (early early!).  Then again, I think I consistently looked 3-months pregnant before I got pregnant.haha  I had to get on top of my baby bump camouflaging game from the start. I hope these tips help you to hide your baby bump until you’re ready to share it with the world.

Great tips! I didn’t share either of my pregnancies until almost the end of the first trimester either. Your tips were spot on. Flowy tops, peplum and bold prints were all a good distraction for my bumps. You did great at camouflaging your bump 🙂

You couldn’t have posted this at a better time! With my first I was extremely excited and impulsive and before I knew it I had told everyone. This time around I actually waited and yesterday I went to a kids birthday party and basically had no choice but to fess up, hehe. It’s definitely true because I didn’t look this pregnant with my first. Thanks for the great tips, I love how you used non maternity items too x
