When I first got pregnant with Kane, I was surprised to find out that I wasn’t having a girl. Girls I got, while having a boy just seemed like such a foreign concept to me. He was so sweet from day one, though, that I remember telling Chauncey that I didn’t care if we had all little boys, and I meant it.
Tee: Lilly Pulitzer // Shorts: Old Navy //Sandals: Tory Burch //Straw circle bag: Free People (splurge option, similar under $25) // Earrings: Sugarfix // Bangle: David Yurman // Karoline’s Bubble: Lilly Pulitzer // Karoline’s Bow: SKCreationss
Fast-forward to me being pregnant again. I was floored when I heart the ultrasound lady say,”It’s a girl!” It wasn’t necessarily that I didn’t want a girl, but I just didn’t feel prepared for it. I was a boy mom. I knew what I was doing with a little boy. A little girl was a whole new ballgame! Everyone’s reaction was similar–they all would say,”That’s so exciting!” And I would honestly say, “It’s intimidating!” I remember my teenage years and I wasn’t even a bad child!haha
Honestly, it took almost my whole pregnancy for me to get used to the idea of having a girl. For some reason, it was just hard to wrap my head around. Side note: if you’re pregnant and having a hard time getting used to the having a boy or a girl, it’s ok! Heck, it’s okay to even feel a little disappoint (why is it rare for people to say that?).
Karoline is everything I could have every hoped for in a child. I’m so very excited to have a daughter. I’m already looking forward to her big events in life (but time, please slow down a little). And I hope that I have a good relationship with her when she grows up like the one I have with my mom now.
But you know what? I hope I have that relationship with BOTH of my children. Being a girl mom isn’t all that different than being a boy mom, other than you get to buy lots of bows:) And while I love our matching Lilly outfits in Mermaids Cove, Kane likes to match us too! He got a little pair of Lilly shorts while I was on vacation and while they’re not this exact pattern, he was excited to “match.”
So having a daughter isn’t that much different than having a son. I imagine she’ll raise hell just like Kane. . .being my daughter, I wouldn’t have it any other way. And while I used to imagine having only little boys, now I can’t picture my life any other way. My daughter completes our family, not because we “finally got a girl,” but because she is special and unique and OURS.
