Let’s be honest—the quality of makeup brushes can make or break your look. It can make a difference in everything from how the brush picks up your product to how the product is deposited on your skin. Some people think that you have to spend a ton of money to get awesome makeup brushes (think Sigma), but that’s not true!
People are ALWAYS surprised when I say that my two favorite brands of makeup brushes are Sonia Kashuk and Real Techniques, in that order. Both of these brands deliver quality makeup brushes at excellent price points.
The eye makeup brushes shown above are from the Sonia Kashuk line and they actually come in a set for $20! Yes, 5 Makeup brushes for $20. That’s just $4 per brush (compared to $20+ per brush with more prestige brush brands). You can purchase individual brushes from Sonia Kashuk, but I’ve found their sets to be the best value.
Real Techniques brushes are also amazing. I tend to purchase them at Ulta because they’re frequently on sale and you can use an Ulta coupon. There are a few sets of these brushes, but I tend to purchase them individually.
If I had to make the call, I’d say that I prefer Sonia Kashuk for eye makeup brushes and Real Techniques for face makeup brushes.
What about ELF? I’m just not a huge fan of ELF makeup brushes and would rather invest just a little bit more to purchase Sonia Kashuk or Real Techniques brushes. While there have been a few exceptions, I don’t like how the brushes pickup or deposit color.
