Get Spooky: Decorating Your Shelves for Halloween

This post is sponsored by Gordman’s. All opinions are my own, as always.

I’ve always enjoyed decorating for the holidays, but I especially love it now that I have kids. In fact, Kane was giving me crap just the other day because he felt like I hadn’t decorated enough for Hallow (insert eye roll). I remembered seeing some super cute Halloween decorations at Gordman’s, so I stopped by this weekend and picked up some extra Halloween decorations for new shelf that’s in my upstairs landing. In case you struggle with styling your shelves, here are some tips for how to decorate your shelves for Halloween.

Black spider pumpkin: Gordman’s (their price $36.99, Gordman’s price $17.99) // White spider pumpkin: Gordman’s (their price $36.99, Gordman’s price $17.99) // Gold wire basket: Gordman’s (Gordman’s price $17.99, on sale for $8.98) // Small sparkly pumpkins: Gordman’s (their price $6, Gordman’s price $3.99 each)// Broom hair sign: Gordman’s (their price $12, Gordman’s price $5.99) // Wine glassesGordman’s (Gordman’s price $4.99 for the set) // Boo sign: Gordman’s (their price $10, Gordman’s price $4.99) // Woodwick CandleGordman’s (their price $24, Gordman’s price $9.99) // Ghost figurine: Gordman’s (Gordman’s price $6.99) // Mummy “beware” sign: Gordman’s (their price $14, Gordman’s price $6.99) //  Karoline’s Dress: Carter’s via Gordman’s (their price $22, Gordman’s Price $9.99)

TIPS FOR STYLING YOUR SHELVES FOR HALLOWEEN: CLEAN OFF YOUR SHELF

When I style my shelves for the holidays, I first decide what stays and what goes/gets put up until after the holidays. Items I decided to leave on the shelf include my Kayla Weber Art globe, baby glass flamingo, my marble and gold candle situation on the top, fake plant, C Buxton Design flamino pic, and my gold wire basket from Gordman’s. This is the same one I have downstairs–I liked it so much that I went and picked up a second one.

TIPS FOR STYLING YOUR SHELVES FOR HALLOWEEN: VARY THE TYPES OF DECOR YOU BUY

Once I knew what I was keeping, it was time to go shopping for new Halloween decorations. There’s a couple of things you want to keep in mind when shopping for Halloween decorations. First, you want to get different heights, sizes, and shapes of items. This will create depth. You’ll notice that the black pumpkin and white pumpkin are the same, as are the two mini pumpkins. If you grab a couple of the same item, make sure you style them on different sections of your shelf.

TIPS FOR STYLING YOUR SHELVES FOR HALLOWEEN: MAKE A MENTAL GRID TO DECORATE BY

When you’re deciding how to style your new decorations on your shelf, you should split your shelf into a grid mentally. My grid consisted of top, middle, and bottom rows of the shelf, which I then split into left, middle, and right columns.  Once you’ve split everything into grids, you want to make sure your decorations balance each other in their places on the grid. You can see that I varied objects by height and width in the different rows and columns.

TIPS FOR STYLING YOUR SHELVES FOR HALLOWEEN: FINISHING TOUCHES

Then, add the finishing touches to your shelf decor. I popped a candy bowl with some chocolate candy bars on the top for easy access. And while my wire basket usually catches odds and ends, I gathered up some of our Halloween books and popped them in so that we can cycle through them this month.

I also grabbed Karoline’s Halloween cat dress and Giz’s little spider costume (it’s supposed to be for a small dog, but whatevs) from Gordman’s. Karoline’s dress is from this season at Carter’s. I love all the goodies you an find at Gordman’s, but it’s like getting sucked down the rabbit hole because I can spend so much time in there looking at everything!

So cute! I don’t have much Halloween decorations yet, I usually just do fall, but sure that will change once we have kids 🙂

You are putting me to shame! I haven’t even touched the first Halloween decoration this year. Is there a Halloween equivalent of being a Scrooge? (side note: I *need* that wire basket in my life)

I love Gordman’s. They have the cutest home decor! Yours turned out great! I have to admit that I don’t really decorate for fall, but when Christmas comes around… we go all out!

Love all the decoration & tips–
I myself never really style for the season, I usually just pick up the scented candles and just leave everything else due to laziness but I love your shelves!
