Splashing into One: Karoline’s Mermaid First Birthday Party

For Karoline’s first birthday party, I decided to make a splash and go with a mermaid theme. I love all things whimsical for Karoline, and mermaids definitely fit the bill. I also love the Mermaids Cove print from Lilly Pulitzer, and this allowed me to incorporate it into the party.

We decided to hold her party at Lex Kids Club, which just recently opened. I had such a hard time finding a spot that was suitable for a first birthday. The place that Kane likes to have his parties at is more suited to 3 years +, and while we could’ve had it at a clubhouse, that wouldn’t have provided the kids anything to play with. As soon as I saw Lex Kids Club, I knew this was the place! It had tons of toys and activities for ages 1 to 5. They even do a themed craft with the kids for the party!

For decorations, I decided to keep it simple. I picked up some mermaid balloons at Target and a mermaid happy birthday banner. Then I swung by Party City, where I grabbed some jellyfish paper lanterns.  And these starfish mermaid wands made the cutest party favors! Birthday parties can become so overwhelming and expensive–I’ve never been one to go all-out on decorations.

Kelly from Moms in the Moment Photography took pictures for us at the party. I love her service, because she recognizes that moms don’t get to be in the moment as often as they should because they’re usually behind the camera. So she allows moms to be in the moment–how awesome is that?! You can book her in 30 minute increments up to 2 hours. Since Karoline’s party was 2 hours long, we asked her to come 30 minutes into the party and she stayed for an hour. She will have the edited photos to you within 24 hours of your event. We got so many pictures that are wonderful. The ones I’m sharing with you today are just a small selection chosen for privacy of Karoline’s guests:) Kelly got all the photos I wanted to make sure to capture, and then some! In the meantime, I was able to enjoy the party and have a good time without worrying about capturing every single moment.

Nice to meet you!
