I’m still recovering from roadtripping to ATL this weekend for The Blog Societies annual conference, but man, what a conference! Don’t you just love when you get re-energized and empowered? I’ll be doing several blog posts about #TBScon, but if you hop over to my Instagram stories, there’s a chat joining on about the conference that you can join using the new chat feature–just click “Join Chat” and I’ll add you to the conversation! Now, on to how to wear a t-shirt to the office.

How to Wear a T-Shirt to the Office
Here’s my tried and true formula for how to wear a t-shirt to the office. You have to start my remembering that your top is just one piece of your outfit formula. Essentially, its outfit algebra–instead of solving for X, we’re solving for style.haha. To balance out the casualness of the tee, you need to make sure the rest of your outfit is office appropriate.
Start by avoiding graphic tees. If you work in an office where your dress code is at least business casual, you’re more than likely not ever getting by with a graphic tee. Sorry. Instead, opt for a striped t-shirt like I did here, or a patterned tee.
Next, the main part of your outfit that’s going to balance your equations is the bottom half. Here, I’ve added a pencil skirt and heels to cancel out the casualness of the tee. If your office is totally against business casual, add a blazer to complete to the look.
You also want to be very intentional with your accessories so that you look more put-together and less “I woke up like this.” A great way to do this is to add statement earrings and a nice handbag. The more deliberate your outfit looks, the less likely someone is to call you out for wearing a tee.
And at the end of the day, if your office is super stuffy, just add black. . .black skirt or dress pants, black heels, black bag, black blazer.
Hope your week is off to a great start. Let me know in the comments if you’ve worn a tee to work, and if so, how did you pull it off??
