When you work in an office, it’s easy to fall into the black pants rut during fall and wintertime. Now, I don’t have anything against black pants. Black ankle pants are one of my top 5 wardrobe staples year-round. I’m just saying that it’s easy to get into a style rut during the colder months. Here’s a workwear outfit for fall that mixes things up and features one of the trendy pieces of call for fall–the sweater skirt.

How to Wear A Sweater Skirt to the Office
I first started seeing sweater skirts this summer, when everyone was wearing the Free People sweater skirt in pink. The trend is here to stay for colder weather. I spotted this gray sweater skirt while doing a quick (I swear it was quick.haha) Target run a couple of weeks ago and immediately wanted to style it for the office.
To style a sweater skirt for work, you want to have some contrasting fabric. Here, I’ve paired it with a beautiful plaid flannel button-up top. If you want to pair it with a cardigan or other sweater, layer that piece over a more smooth fabric button-up top and it will still work. Make sure to tuck in the smooth layer. You want to look put-together.
I’m loving gray and brown together for fall, so I popped on my favorite heels in the shade Cocoa. I got these on major sale a couple of months ago, and actually bought 3 pairs in different colors. These heels are right at $30, but are comparable to heels that are triple the price. I have probably 6-8 pairs of these heels in different colors and materials. As the temps continue to drop, though, swap them out for some cognac booties or even knee boots.
