It’s My Birthday! Turning 34 During the Pandemic + Casual Birthday Outfit

Today is my 34th birthday! I was actually born on Election Day in 1986, and always say that’s probably why I’m so opinionated. And this year, the Election Day excitement is still going on, even though the election was yesterday. Honestly, though, with 2020, did anyone expect anything different? Celebrating my 34th birthday during a pandemic was not what I expected.

First of all, if you follow me on Instagram, then you know that my dad came down with COVID-19 on Friday (along with other members of my family back home) and was on the vent. This was my worst nightmare come true. Thankfully, my dad is improving and they  doctors are trying to bring him off the vent. Knowing that my dad is getting better is the best birthday gift I could’ve received! Y’all please say a prayer for him that he continues to improve and that they can bring him off the vent tomorrow.

This has been a crazy time for my family, so my birthday was low-key. I worked from home today (like every other day), celebrated with lunch and dinner out on the patio, and enjoyed time with Chauncey and the kids. Even though we didn’t do anything crazy, I still wanted a casual yet festive birthday outfit.

The easiest way to achieve a festive birthday outfit is to add glitter, sparkle, and/or shine. I built this look around this silver holographic tank (sorry–no longer in stock because I snagged the last one) that I bought to wear to the BSB concert that didn’t happen this year. It had been hanging on my clothing rack and I decided now was the time to wear it:) Then, I added my favorite neon pink Lilly Pulitzer cardigan for a pop of color and to keep the fun going!

Now, to keep my outfit casual, I went with black jeans and tennis shoes. That said, my tennis shoes are covered in glitter and really pull the whole look together! These sneakers are a great alternative to Golden Goose and at a much more affordable price.

I think that even during a pandemic, it’s important to celebrate birthdays! Find a way to make your birthday, and your loved one’s birthdays, special. During this time, it’s more important than ever to celebrate ourselves and those around us, when we don’t otherwise feel like there’s much reason to celebrate.
