While I intended to post this look for the holidays, it didn’t happen. Whoops. If you’ve been around for awhile now, you know that I tend to roll with things, and this look is just as good now as it was before Christmas! I adore the look of a poncho, especially since I freeze. I know, however, they can be tricky to style. Today I’m sharing an easy way to style a poncho with a body suit and faux leather leggings.
green poncho // white long-sleeved bodysuit // Spanx faux leather leggings under $50 // sparkle heels // Kendra Scott rainbow statement earrings c/o // Kendra Scott star necklace c/o // Tory Burch Kira crossbody
The main thing to remember when styling a poncho is that it’s all about what’s underneath the poncho. You want to keep your undershirt and pants as sleek as possible, because ponchos can otherwise overwhelm your look. Bodysuits are so good for this purpose! I took a size large in this one. You still get peeks of my shape underneath the poncho. Leggings serve the same purpose as the bodysuit and help balance out the overall look. If you want to wear a poncho to the office, you can easily swap out some skinny black ankle pants for the faux leather leggings. I’m also a fan of keeping the under-look neutral to let the poncho shine.
When it comes to sizing, the rule of thumb is that ponchos are sized generously, so definitely think about sizing down. I snagged the S/M size in this one. Yes, it’s going to be oversized, but you don’t want it to be super billowy.
All that said, go fun with your jewelry and shoes! Here, I’m making a statement with my earrings and my sparkly high heels. You could easily do a statement necklace in addition to the statement earrings here. And you could swap the sparkly heels for flats or ankle boots depending on where you’re going.
This look can easily carry you through til spring.
