High Five for Friday

TGIF!  This has been such a busy, hectic week for me. . .but it’s Friday!!!  I’m really happy to say that with this post, normal blog posting has resumed after the last two crazy weeks:)  Let’s recap the highlights:

1. I took my very FINAL final–as in no more finals EVER–on Wednesday night.  Hello, MBA:)  I cannot believe that after 9.5 years of post-secondary education, I am finally done with school.  While I really enjoyed my MBA classes, I’m excited to have time to focus on my family.  Chauncey has gotten Kane to sleep most nights lately, and it was really nice to be able to do that myself last night.

2. Speaking of Kane, we took him to see Santa at Lexington Green on Sunday.  I’m doing a post next week on our experience, but I just want to say that it was hilarious!  Here’s a peek at his list for Santa.

He loves to go “MOOO” like a cow–it’s his favorite animal:)

3. As I mentioned on Instagram, I recently received my $15 Beauty Insider Reward Card from Sephora.  I look forward to this every year, and took some time on Sunday to go redeem it.  I ended up with some new foundation and some blender sponge things.  I always use this card as an opportunity to try new things.

4. I have had three good nights of sleep in a roll!  Kane has been waking up in the middle of the night for a while now, but he hasn’t the past three nights.  Now, I’ve probably just jinxed it, but it had to be on my #H54F list.

5. Last Friday, I wore one of my favorite new shirts.  I’m loving the embroidered exclamation point, because I feel like it fits my personality to a tee.  I’m really looking forward to getting back into doing my #ootd posts on Instagram now that I’ll have time, so be sure to follow along.

Earrings: Target, $1.24
Necklace: Ebay, $9.39 shipped.
Sweater: J. Crew, $22.
Chambray Shirt: J. Crew Factory, $20
Bracelet: H. M. Willow (will update with link later)

Congrats on wrapping up school! That's so exciting for your whole family. Hope Kane keeps sleeping great for you because it's amazing the difference a good night of sleep can make. Have a great weekend 🙂

High Five for Friday

TGIF!  It has been a fabulous week, my friends!  I turned 28 (and voted!) on Tuesday, and was shown lots of love from all-around!!!  My mom and mother-in-law were down for the weekend, too, which was great.  Let’s recap:

1. On Friday, Kane went Trick-or-Treating door-to-door for the 1st time ever, and he loved it!!!  He especially liked carrying around his candy bag.

The tail gets me everytime!

2. I SAW GARTH BROOKS AND TRISHA YEARWOOD LIVE!!!  They were phenomenal.  It was one of the best concerts I’ve been to!  Garth sang all of his classics, including my personal favorites–Two Pina Coladas, Friends in Low Place, Thunder Rolls, That Summer, and Papa Loved Mama. Trisha nailed How Do I Live, but I really wish she would have sang I Would’ve Loved You Anyway. Oh, and our seats?  Simply amazing!

That would be Mr. Brooks himself in the cowboy hat behind us!

3. Chauncey and I, along with some of our friends, hit up the UK v. UPIKE game on Sunday (excellent seats once again).  I also went to the Alumni Reception beforehand.  It was nice to catch-up with some people I hadn’t seen for a while.

4. On my actual birthday, we had planned on going to the Cheesecake Factory.  A toddler and a 2.5+ hour wait don’t mix though, so we headed to Joe B’s.  Joe B’s is one of my favorite restaurants, and they didn’t disappoint!  I even got free cheesecake for dessert;)

5. I’m in love with the blanket scarf!  Today’s special, and you’re getting 2 posts–this #H54F one and a new Wardrobe Re-Wear post featuring the blanket scarf!  You can read it here or just continuing scrolling down to the very next post.

Before you go, be sure to enter the latest giveaway for your very own set of Younique 3D Fiber Lashes!!!

High Five for Friday

Be sure to stop back by next week.  There may just be not 1, but 2 awesome giveaways going on starting Wednesday-ish.  If you need some fall updates to your wardrobe and beauty routine, then you’ll want to enter!

TGIF!  As schoolwork for the semester starts to pick up, I’m beginning to feel a little stressed. Sometimes it’s not easy to juggle everything that I do, but it’s certainly worth it in the end.  Anyways, even with the stress I’ve had an awesome week! Let’s recap:

1.  It was an all around good ticket week!  I GOT GARTH BROOKS TICKETS–lower level!!!! AHHHHH!!! Trisha Yearwood will also be performing with him, so my level of excited is through the roof!!!  Oh, and it just so happens that the concert is my birthday weekend:)  Then on Sunday, I got to go see my all-time favorite movie, Gone with the Wind, in theaters!  It was an amazing experience to see it with a theater full of people!  One of my favorite quotes: “Rhett Butler is the only cause I believe in.”–Rhett Butler.  Rhett, I can get behind that;)

2. In addition to getting my tickets last Friday, it was also a day for parties.  Kane had a fall festival at daycare, where they sang fall songs, had fall treats, and painted itty-bitty pumpkins.  It was adorable, but Kane was ready to come home and sleep.

After we left, I dropped Kane off with my neighbor and headed out to meet up with Chauncey at a pool party.  Yes, an outdoor pool party in late September.  The pool was heated and it felt fabulous–until it was time to get out:)  I always love seeing Chauncey’s work family.  They’re so much fun!

3. My Walmart Beauty Box arrived!  You can find out what was in it and find out how to sign-up (super cheap) here. I was shocked at how awesome it was.  I had set my expectations kind of low, but the beauty box blew me outta the water!

Why yes, that would be one of the infamous blanket scarves,  Click the link above to find out where to purchase for $12.99!

4. I also think outside the box when it comes to my outfits, but I really pushed outside of my comfort zone for this week’s Wardrobe Re-Wear.  The colored pants were pretty standard, but the intense pattern-mixing and wearing a dress as a skirt were new to me.  I loved both looks, though!

Outfit details here.

5.  October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  I wear pink for my Mamaw, two of her sisters, and countless others who have battled breast cancer.  Earlier this week, H.M. Willow made an exciting announcement on their Instagram.  During the month of October, not only will they be donating a portion of their sales from their “Pink Page” to getting mammograms for women in need, but they were looking for names of women who have battled breast cancer to name their pink bangles after, as a way to honor them.  I teared up as soon as I read that and nominated my Mamaw, Mary Lillie, suggesting that the Lillie would be a perfect name for a bangle that I would be proud to wear.  She beat breast cancer a decade ago before passing away while battling lung cancer 2 years ago.  She taught me the meaning of being a survivor.

H.M. Willow’s pink bangles went live night before last, and there among them was the Lillie.  I of course had to order several of the bangles that were named in her honor.  You can shop the Lillie, as well as the other pink bangles, here.

I am a bigtime fan of pattern-mixing…those outfits are really cute! And I'm glad to hear the Walmart Beauty box was a hit…I've been on the fence about signing up but this may be just the push I needed…

Sounds like an awesome week! I love the bangle! I need to order one in memory of your sweet granny. I wish they did something like this for ovarian cancer in memory of my mom. I'm jealous over the Garth Brooks/Trisha Yearwood Tickets!!!

High Five for Friday

Helllllloooo sweet Friday–TGIF!  I can’t believe that Friday is already here, but the 4-day work week made the days in-between fly by:)  I hope you all had a wonderful and happy Labor Day weekend! Her’e what I’ve been into:

1. For Labor Day weekend, we went home to eastern Kentucky.  It was a nice, relaxing weekend that involved sleeping in and lots of naps.  I saw several friends, spent time with family, wore comfy clothes, and ate tons of yummy food.

2. Even though I’m not quite ready to say goodbye to summer, I just had to pick up these shoes while Target was having a sale!  The boots are originally $39.99, and the moccasins are $24.99.  With Target’s BOGO 50% off promotion, and an extra 25% off via the Cartwheel app, I was able to snag both pairs for only $39.96!  I have wanted these boots since last fall, but they sold out before I could get my hands on them.  If you’re looking for some new shoes for your fall wardrobe, either of these would be great additions that you could wear on repeat.

Karri Boots
Driver Mocs (in Hazel)

3. I finally got my hair cut this week!  I haven’t been able to make it home to my regular stylist and it had been 4 months since I’d had anything done.  On Tuesday, I woke up and realized my hair was out of control, so I called Ulta and got an appointment the next day!  Amisha, the girl who cut my hair, was great, and I received 20% off of my salon services since it was my 1st visit.

You can check out the latest Wardrobe Re-Wear post, featuring 2 ways to wear this neon lace tank, here.

4. Speaking of Ulta, I also picked up the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette.  I actually went to get the Basics 2 palette, but felt like the colors of the original Basics palette worked better with my coloring. I’d been wanting something from the Naked line for a while, but wasn’t willing to pay full-price.  I had 250 Ulta Rewards points, so I received $8 off of my purchase:)

By the way, if you’ve been wanting one of these palettes, stay tuned to the blog.  Katie from Cup of Tea Blog, Della from Della Devoted, and I have a couple of giveaways planned that you will definitely want to enter!  While you wait, be sure to head on over and check out their blogs!

5. Fall candy is out.  Need I say more? Yum!  It’s September, so it’s acceptable to eat fall candy now, right?

Before you go, be sure to enter the Jamberry nail wraps giveaway hosted by myself and Sarah Lammy, Jamberry Nails Independent Consultant!

Whit, I love the two-tone boot look as well, and when I searched before, everything else I found was $100 or more. My office stays cool, so I couldn't resist wearing a light-weight scarf yesterday. Big mistake–with Temps around 90 degrees, I about roasted when I went outside.lol

Ok, now it's time to start figuring out what connections we have then.lol Where do you live? I'm from Inez and went to Pikeville College for undergrad. The group of companies I work for in Lexington is based in Martin Co. Your turn now:)

And thanks! The boots were very affordable compared to other similar styles. Target is a great place to shop for shoes. Payless also has some gorgeous boots every year, and if you sign up for emails to watch their coupons, they'll usually have a couple of 40% off ones through the season!

High Five for Friday

Hello, Friday and August!  Where did July go so quickly?!?

It’s that time again, so let’s recap:

1. I went and picked up my order from Bluetique Cheap Chic‘s recent 50% off sale.  Seriously, how cute are the note and earrings that they stuck in with the order?!  Now there’s some customer service.  It definitely made me smile and brightened my day!  If you click here and join their mailing list, you’ll get a coupon for 10% off of your next purchase.

You know this cuteness will be on the blog and Instagram next week:)

2.  I love my husband’s work family–they’re awesome!  We caught up with several of them over dinner at a local Mexican restaurant on Tuesday night, and then some of us girls went bowling on Wednesday night.  I am absolutely terrible at bowling, but I put a lot of heart into.  That counts for something, right?  I found a deal on Groupon to the local bowling center (Lexington readers, check it out here), so all 6 of us bowled for $25 total.  That included an hour of bowling, shoe rental, and a pitcher of pop*.

*Yes, I call it pop.  You may refer to it as soda, cola, or coke.
How stylish are our shoes? You know I’ve been into neons a lot lately.lol

3.  It’s been a good lunch week!  Last Friday, I went out to lunch with my friend Ashley and hit up Carino’s.  We have a lot in common, so it’s always nice to catch up, but it’s even better over good food! Then on Tuesday, my co-workers wanted Penn Station.  I got a 6″ Dagwood (make your own) with pepperoni and provolone, a small fry, and a lemonade.  If you haven’t tried their fries, then you’re missing out!  Tuesday nights are their family night, when you buy any sub and get a 6″ sub for free!

4.  Mr. Kane has learned a new word: WOW (imagine it like this: wwwoooooowww).  And if he says it, you’d better look around to see what he’s done that precipitated it.  For instance, at daycare this week he was throwing toys in the trash, and each time he threw in one, he would exclaim, “Wow!”

On a side note, he already has 10 teeth, and now 2 molars are coming in.  The teether in the picture has been a lifesaver!

5. OMG you have got to get in on this jean deal at JCP!  I had some coupons to JCP that I needed to use ($15 off $15, $10 off $10, and $10 off $25) so I went to browse and hit the jean jackpot!  All 3 of these jeans were on sale for $14.99 each!!!  I picked up Kane a little outfit to be able to use my 3rd coupon, but at the end of the day, I got all 3 pairs of jeans for basically $10!

L to R: JCP Skinny in Medium Wash ($19.80 online), JCP Slim Straight in Dark ($44 online) and JCP Skinny in Rinse. ($19.80 online)

I’ve included links to the jeans, but they’re not as cheap online, and 1 pair is still full-price:(  Anyways, if you want to head to JCP and try to find them for the price I did, here’s a coupon for $10 off $25! And I don’t know about you guys, but I love seeing those little pink tags back at JCP!

High Five for Friday

TGIF (seriously) and Happy 4th of July!!!

1. We finally did it–the signs are up and our townhouse is officially listed FOR SALE by owner!  I just put the signs up last night and I’m really happy with them. I’m praying we can sell quickly so that we can get into a bigger house soon.  Have any of you all had any experience selling your home this way?  I’d love to hear about it if you have!

This sign, and our larger one on the fence, came from buildasign.com.
Through July 7, you can use code MysJulyBAS25Aff for 25% off + free shipping!
(I have our phone # and advertising website address on the sign blanked out for privacy purposes)

2. Pure yumminess– the Great Value brand of Cotton Candy ice cream + marshmallows.  You’ve got to try it!  Just mix the marshmallows in for a yummy treat!

3.  I finally did my 1st makeup tutorial and it’s for girls who wear glasses–or don’t🙂 While this is geared towards someone who has their beautiful eyes behind glasses, it’s a tutorial that anyone can use! The tutorial also gives tips for applying eyeliner and shows you how to take the look from day to night. Learn how to brighten the appearance of yours eyes and make them look bigger and more open at the same time!

I also have 3 palette suggestions in 3 different price ranges, depending on what you’re looking for!
All are very similar.  Cheapest is only $5.99!

4. The giveaway wrapped up on the blog this week.  Congrats to Cindi Harris, the winner of the Coach wristlet!

5. I have to work today, but I’m heading to a pool party as soon as work’s over.  I hope that everyone has a safe and fun July 4th!  Let freedom ring:)  Hoping all of the people affected by Hurricane Arthur are staying safe!

High Five for Friday

We have a lot going on these week, but it’s all mainly good stuff:)

1. Yesterday’s post has a tutorial + a GIVEAWAY!  I demonstrate how to make a bridal bouquet for less than $20, and I’m giving away both the bridal bouquet and boutonniere pictured below! Be sure to check out the post and enter the giveaway, whether your a bride-to-be, know a bride-to-be, or would just like a nice bouquet to lay on an accent table!  I had a lot of fun doing the post–this week my brain has been way overworked, so it was nice to work with my hands.  Creativity is definitely a stress-reliever for me!
Also, as promised, here’s the quick boutonniere tutorial:
A boutonniere is basically just a small bouquet.  Save 2-3 flowers and some greenery when making your bouquet.  Cut the stems of the flowers and greenery to about 2 inches long  Arrange them how you like (I usually like for the greenery to jet out to the right side).  Finally, wrap the entire stem in floral tape, making sure the bottom is covered.  I also like to slightly bend out the end of the boutonniere. TA-DA! Done. How easy was that?

Don’t forget–you’ll need a corsage pin!
2.  I love Mac Cosmetics’ trade-in program.  You take in 6 of their make-up containers, and you get a lipstick for FREE!  Nothing brighter on a budget than FREE!  So I traded in and got this great shade called “Girl about Town”.
3.  I got real serious about Transformation Tuesday this week.  While I loved the blue pant in the kitchen, it was time for it to go back neutral.  Here’s the before (left) and after (rights) pictures.
Yes, I know the rugs are off-center.  My eye is already twitching.
4.  Sometimes a girl just needs chocolate/sweets.  Here was my dinner tonight: a salted caramel cupcake from Caramanda’s!
5. My baby boy turns 1 tomorrow!  Where does the time go?!  One year ago today, we were heading into the hospital for me to be induced.  It was a slightly crazy day.  Chauncey accidentally set off our home alarm and the police showed up because I couldn’t remember the correct password to tell the alarm company.  I calmly explained to the police office that everything was okay, and I was really sorry, but I was having a baby and just couldn’t think of the password–I had other things on my mind!  Then, just as we were getting ready to leave, we realized that our air conditioner had stopped working!  Luckily, it was fixed by the time we brought Kane home from the hospital, but it made the day just a little more hectic than I would have liked!  Here’s a pic of Kane when he was itty-bitty (it didn’t last long)!
Be sure to check out Lauren over at the Lauren Elizabeth–she hosts this link-up!

High Five for Friday

Friday again already?  You won’t hear me complaining–at least not about that:)  Here’s a look back at my week:
1.  I got this absolutely awesome savings card for places in Lex that includes a lot of my favorite restaurants and has unlimited uses through May 2015.  Some of my favorite deals are BOGO Free combos at Raising Cane’s on Wednesday, 10% off $10 at Roosters, 15% off at Orange Leaf, free Jet’s Bread with a large deep dish pizza from Jet’s… I could go on and on!  The card was only $10, and was being sold for a fundraiser, so it’s an all-around win.  Thanks for the hookup, Shannon!
2.  Earlier this week, I switched out all of my fall/winter clothes for my spring/summer.  I always dread this chore but I’m glad it’s done!  Every time I do this, I feel like I’ve went shopping because I have different clothes to wear.
Can you spot Giz supervising in the background? Hint: towards the top!
3.  New swimsuit!  I purchased this one from Victoria’s Secret in store because I had a $10 off $50 coupon from taking one of their surveys.  I have wide hips, so I usually have to have string bikinis so that the bikini bottom doesn’t “cut” into my hips, but the ruffle around this bikini bottom is perfect to camouflage that!  Can’t wait to wear this to a pool party this weekend!
Top: Beach Sexy Ruffle Halter Top in Cloud Tie Dye, $30.50 b/f discount
Bottoms: Beach Sexy Cheeky Low-Rise Bottom in Flo Fuchsia, $18.50
Want to save on a swimsuit from VS?  For a VS online order, you can use 3 coupon codes: use ULTIMATE to get the Ultimate Beach Tote and Scarf for free with any swim purchase, use SHIP50VS for free shipping on orders of $50+, and if you receive their emails, check your email for a code with pin # for 20% off any item.  Otherwise, you can use 20OFF125 for $20 off any $125 purchase. * These offers are good through 11:59 PST on 05/04/14, but the tote/scarf combo offer is only good through 11:59 PST on 05/04/14 while supplies last.
4.  Last weekend was busy but good!  Our homeowners association worked outside on Saturday morning, and then Kane and I headed out to dinner and shopping with my friend Kara and her daughter Lily. The next day I went to a Stock the Bar party for my friends Jane and John who are getting married this month, and saw several law school friends while there:)
These pink shorts are the ones I picked up from Old Navy. Details here.
PS- I promise Kane was not wearing a belly shirt.lol
5. Look what’s in!  Waiting on a special time to host an upcoming giveaway for this!  This is an authentic large wristlet from Coach.  It has 8 credit card slots (or something like that) in it and a pocket on the front that’s great for putting your cell phone in.  And, as you can see, it’s perfect for any UK fan!
Linking up with Lauren from Lauren Elizabeth!  Hoping your week has been good as well!

High Five for Friday

One of my favorite bloggers, Lauren from Lauren Elizabeth, hosts a linkup every Friday on her blog called High Five for Friday, or H54F for short.  I’ve decided to join in on her fabulous Friday posts and share some of the moments I’ve enjoyed throughout the week:)  I hope that these posts will help you to get to know me better!

This week has flown by!!! Seriously–where did Tuesday through Thursday go?!

1. We went back home to eastern Kentucky to celebrate Easter.  While I had a little bit of a fiasco with my Easter dress, a crisis was averted and I really enjoyed spending the weekend with family!  This was Kane’s 1st Easter, and he’s to the age where he can play and get into everything.  Needless to say, it was FUN!

Is this “basket” too big?lol

2.  I love sweets!  I ran out to the mall this week and decided I needed to have some fro-yo on the way home.  I swung by Fro-Jo’s drive-thru (if you live in Lexington, you’ve got to check out this place!) and ordered birthday cake fro-yo with cookie dough and marshmallow toppings!

So yummy!

3. Bath & Body Works is having several good deals right now.  Let’s be honest–they always have deals, but some of their deals are better than others!  I had a $10 off $30 survey coupon, so I picked up some Wallflowers that were on sale for $3/each (great deal on the Wallflowers–usually runs $4/each) and a room spray.   I like to spray the Tiki Beach scent in the bathroom right before I take a bubble bath.  It makes me feel like I’m at the beach–vacation in a bottle!  Right now, with this coupon, you can pick up a free item of your choice (up to $14.50) with any purchase + get shipping for $1!  Plus, in addition to the Wallflower deal, their Signature Collection body care is buy 3, get 3 free.  WIN!

My 2 favorite scents right now are Tiki Beach and Watermelon Lemonade!

4. My Birchbox this month included a nail polish from Color Club!  Those are always my favorite Birchboxes!  What is Birchbox? For $10/month, you get a cute box in the mail that has 4-5 awesome samples that are customized to your personalized beauty profile.  I’ll be doing a more in-depth post on Birchbox in the future, but head over here to check it out if you can’t wait!

I always look forward to finding this in the mailbox!

5. I went shopping at Hobby Lobby and while scoping out some things for my friend Ashley’s wedding (she’s 1 of my best friends from law school), I went ahead and picked up these gorgeous flowers for a post I’ll be doing in the near future.  I’ll be showing you how to make your own wedding bouquet for less than $20!  Be sure to keep an eye out for it.

P.S.–I’ll be giving away the bouquet I make!

DON’T FORGET Once Bright on a Budget hits 1,000 likes on Facebook, I’m giving away a Coach wristlet here on the blog!  Share away and encourage your friends to like so someone can win!
