Why I’m Still Shopping During the Pandemic

I’ve teamed up with some friends over on Instagram today to share our Spring Breaks looks. . .essentially what we would’ve worn for Spring Break had we gotten to travel. I put this look together from a couple of my fav recent purchases, and it got me to thinking about people’s perceptions regarding shopping during the pandemic. Here’s why I’m still shopping during the pandemic.

white v-neck tee // mom shorts // Tory Burch Miller sandals (Tory Burch Mini Miller sandals) // similar bag, similar bag // similar tie dye knot headband, similar tie dye knot headband // sunglasses // Kendra Scott Poppy heart necklace // Kendra Scott friendship bracelet

First of all, I realize that not everyone has disposable income right now. I know people are struggling, and I do not want to seem insensitive to their plight. My heart goes out to everyone who has been negatively impacted by the pandemic, and I am praying for y’all. This is a terrible time all-around.

At the same time, we (collectively) have to keep the economy going as much as possible. Those of us who are blessed to still be working and bringing home a paycheck need to continue circulating money in the economy. If those who can spend money stop spending money, then the economic situation is going to be a lot worse than it already is. That would lead to even more businesses/employers being further negatively affected.

By continuing to shop, I am continuing to support businesses I love. The money being spent helps to keep businesses going, which helps keep people employed, and that helps to support the economy as a whole. Even if businesses can still operate, if no one is spending money with them, then they’ll have to close, impacting and displacing even more workers.  Personally, I’m shopping both local and small businesses when I can.  Also, if possible, you should consider supporting local charities to help our friends who are in need right now, because the needs are great across the country.

If you can’t spend money right now, I hope that you’ll use my blog as inspiration, whether it’s shopping your own closet or in other areas of your life. I want Bright on a Budget to continue to be a bright, happy space during this difficult time. We’re all in this together.
